nature
Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better.
The Himalayas are vital to South Asia’s water and weather systems, feeding major rivers and shaping monsoon patterns. Cryospheric studies—focused on glaciers, snow, and ice—help us understand these dynamics and their impact on ecosystems, terrain stability, and natural hazards like avalanches, landslides, and glacial lake floods (GLOFs). This research is essential for disaster risk reduction, water security, and sustainable development in vulnerable mountain communities. As a multidisciplinary field, cryospheric science bridges hydrology, geology, climate science, and ecology.
Aims & Objectives of Society
Serve as a national organization to promote, encourage, and develop research and technologies in cryospheric sciences, including glaciers, snow, avalanches, landslides, flash floods, and GLOFs
Organize lectures, discussions, conferences, seminars, colloquia, and courses on cryospheric science and technologies.
Explore new areas of research and development in the country relating to cryospheric sciences and associated hazards.
Establish liaison with government bodies, individuals, institutions, and commercial organizations on matters pertaining to cryospheric studies and provide expert advice when required.
Cooperate with other bodies having similar objectives and associate with organizations in India and abroad for the promotion of common goals.
Promote professionalism of members by maintaining high standards of competency and enforcing rules of conduct as a condition of membership.
